I cried in Von Maur.
Yep.
Von Maur.
I mean, I wasn’t hysterical by any means.
It was more like eyes flooding, body tingling, heart racing, sounds like you are underwater type of cry.
It was a moment, okay!…
“OMG, Kirsten! Did you find the perfect purse? The perfect shoes?
Nope, none of that.
It was a necklace.
I found the perfect necklace.
{ Insert materialistic comments here. }
Go ahead.
I know you want to.
But it wasn’t like that.
While I do enjoy seeing my money hanging in my closet, this addition had much more meaning.
Flashback -
A few posts back I said the two most difficult things I battle having a chronic illness are:
1. It affects the people that love me more than myself.
and
2. The thought that there are people out there that need to see the doctor that i’m lucky enough to see more than I do.
^^^ Remember this.
Okay, now that we have covered that, I am a big fan of the brand DOGEARED, especially their necklaces. They are dainty and all come with a great message.
I was given one on my wedding day by my momma, I spent hours deciding on the perfect message and necklace for each one of my bridesmaids and I bought one for myself when I left behind my South Dakota life and moved to Missouri.
There is an obvious trend here. I seem to pick one up every time i’m going through a big life event but I never realized this until weeks after the latest addition made it into my life. They somehow sneak their way into my life at the most perfect moment.
But this one…
…this one is my favorite.
It’s a message I desperately needed to hear days before leaving for my venture at Mayo.
This is what it said...

Heavy, right?
This necklace has been with me at every appointment since and will continue to compliment my neck for all appointments to come. I don’t see it as a good luck charm, but rather a reminder that it is okay for me to be here. And most importantly that it is okay to take care of myself.
After all, you can’t fill someone else’s cup if yours is empty.
