#THEPOWEROFHASHTAGS

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

This post is going to be a major shoutout of appreciation to the hashtag world for it’s existence.

Seriously, Kirsten?!  Hashtags?… Yes, hashtags. You know, those things at the end of a post that I always make sure to put a bunch of. I get it, they can be annoying. Really, I get it. Annoying. But hear me out.

Those hashtags are more than a pound sign followed by “xyz” to me. Those hashtags allowed me to find peace. Those hashtags taught me about acceptance. Those hashtags allowed me to find people in similar situations. Those hashtags gave me so many friends. Those hashtags gave me a support network. Those damn hashtags literally changed my life. Honestly, they changed my life.

If you still don’t understand how a hashtag works, let me briefly explain (this would include my mother and father. Hehe!) All you have to do is make sure you use a number sign in front of any word or phrase with no spaces. Then, you can go and search that hashtag and any article, post, etc. with that hashtag will come up in a never ending list.

It’s pretty awesome if you ask me.  You can do this anywhere.  In the Facebook search bar, Instagram search, Twitter, Youtube, etc.

If you are going through something that is overwhelming to fight on your own but those around you don’t understand, hashtag it. I promise you will find somebody who gets it and will talk to you. You don’t have to go through it alone.

As with everything, social media has it’s pros and cons.  This is a pro.  A major pro.  I have made so many friends through the chronically ill Instagram hashtags it’s unbelievable. They are a personal cheer squad of humans supporting everyone out there with health issues.

Heck, if you like cherry pie, hashtag it! You’ll find some great pictures and awesome recipes.  My personal favorite is to hashtag the shit out of tacos. All the grub looks so good. I’ve found so many great recipes through Instagram hashtags.

There is literally something out there for everyone.  Go explore!

Remember, "Count your Rainbows, not your Thunderstorms!"

xoxo Kirsten 💕
